MINGHUNG
This machine is a computer-programmed, automatically controlled spindle-less veneer lathe. It revolutionizes the traditional spindle-clamping method by employing three rollers arranged in a triangle (a twin-roller system and a single-roller system) to friction-drive and feed the log for peeling.
During operation, the log is rotated by the driving friction rollers. The CNC system intelligently controls the linear feed speed of the tool carriage via a servo system based on real-time detection of the log's diameter change. This ensures extreme uniformity of veneer thickness throughout the entire peeling process.
High Precision & Quality: The CNC system guarantees minimal thickness variation and produces a smooth, flat veneer surface.
High Yield Rate: The spindle-less design allows the final core diameter after peeling to be less than 50mm, significantly saving valuable timber resources.
Wide Adaptability: It can peel both small-diameter round logs (typically up to 300mm in diameter) and re-process the leftover cores from large spindle-type lathes, maximizing wood utilization.
Automation & High Efficiency: It supports fully automated operation, offers high peeling efficiency, and effectively reduces labor costs.
Stable Performance: Robust structure design ensures reliable operation, easy maintenance, and a long service life.
Core structural components
1.1 High-Precision Friction Drive & Feed System
This is the core that enables “spindle-less” peeling. The system typically consists of a Twin-Roller System (Feed/Drive Rollers) and a Single Roller (Pressure Roller) arranged in a triangular formation.
Twin-Roller System: Two large-diameter, high-hardness alloy steel drive rollers. Their surfaces are often covered with wear-resistant rubber featuring special textures or are knurled to provide powerful friction driving force, responsible for gripping and rotating the log or core.
Single Roller System: Positioned above or to the side of the twin rollers. It applies adjustable pressure via hydraulic or servo drive to stabilize the log against the twin rollers, forming a three-point support that prevents log jumping or slipping during peeling.
Advantage: This design completely eliminates the damage and limitations of traditional spindles on the log ends, allowing peeling down to a much smaller final core diameter (can be below 50mm), significantly improving wood yield.
1.2 Precision CNC Cutting System
This is the actuator that ensures veneer thickness accuracy.
High-Rigidity Tool Carriage Assembly: Constructed from heavy-duty cast iron or welded steel, equipped with precision linear guides and a ball screw. The entire carriage moves with exceptional smoothness along the guides, driven by a servo motor.
Peeling Knife & Nose Bar Assembly:
Peeling Knife: Mounted on a robust tool holder. The blade is made of special alloy tool steel, replaceable, and features a precision micro-adjustment mechanism for setting the initial cutting angle.
CNC Nose Bar: A critical device. Installed parallel to the knife, it is controlled by an independent servo motor. During peeling, it can dynamically and precisely adjust the gap relative to the knife based on the log diameter and preset compression ratio, thereby controlling the depth of checks on the veneer backside and improving surface quality and flexibility.
1.3 Intelligent Detection & CNC Control System
The brain and nerve center of the machine.
Core Controller: Typically employs internationally renowned brands (e.g., Siemens, Fanuc) or high-end industrial PLCs, running dedicated peeling control software.
Real-Time Diameter Detection: Uses high-resolution laser sensors or encoders to measure the instantaneous log diameter continuously and in real-time, feeding data back to the control system.
Closed-Loop Servo Control: Based on real-time diameter, preset veneer thickness, and peeling curve models, the system dynamically calculates and commands the tool carriage servo motor to adjust the feed speed, achieving “constant peripheral speed” or “constant thickness” peeling. This ensures consistent thickness from the full log down to the small core.
1.4 Heavy-Duty Base & Auxiliary Systems
Sturdy Machine Base: A monolithic, heavy-duty steel structure bed, stress-relieved, ensuring all moving components maintain geometric accuracy under high load over the long term and suppressing vibration.
Hydraulic/Pneumatic System: Provides power for actions such as the pressure roller’s lifting/lowering and the rapid retraction of the tool carriage, offering quick response and stable pressure.
Automatic Knife Grinder (Optional): Integrated into the machine, it can automatically grind the peeling knife during production intervals, maintaining a continuously sharp edge to ensure stable veneer quality and extend blade life.
Primarily used in plywood production lines as key equipment for peeling small-diameter logs or re-peeling cores.
