What is a Veneer Dryer?
A veneer dryer is an indispensable and core piece of equipment in the plywood production line, specifically designed for the rapid and uniform dehydration of wet, thin wood sheets (i.e., veneers) after they have been peeled or sliced. Its primary function is to reduce the moisture content of freshly peeled veneers from a high 30%-100%+ down to a suitable range for gluing, typically 8%-12%, in a short time. The drying quality directly determines the final plywood's yield, quality grade (e.g., freedom from cracking or warping), and overall production efficiency.

Working principle
The dryer removes moisture by forcing heated air to make full contact with the wet veneers. The process involves three core stages:
1. Heat Transfer: A heat source (steam, thermal oil, natural gas, or biomass) generates heat, which is transferred via a heat exchanger or directly to the air, creating a high-temperature, dry medium.
2. Mass Transfer: The hot, low-humidity air flows over the veneer surfaces, causing the moisture inside the wood to evaporate and diffuse into the air.
3. Moisture Removal: The moisture-laden, humid air is continuously exhausted from the dryer, while fresh, dry air is introduced, maintaining a powerful drying "driving force" for a continuous process.

Main types and characteristics
1. Roller Veneer Dryer
Working Principle: Veneers are gripped and conveyed forward by a series of upper and lower rollers. Simultaneously, high-velocity jets of hot air from upper and lower plenums impinge vertically onto the veneer surfaces, achieving "impingement drying."
Advantages:
Excellent drying uniformity and high quality.
Ideal for thin veneers (e.g., face/back veneers) and fragile species; low breakage rate.
Good tensioning effect helps flatten the veneers.
High automation and continuous production.
2. Mesh Belt Veneer Dryer
Working Principle: Veneers are laid flat on a continuously moving metal mesh belt and carried through the drying chamber. Hot air passes over and/or through the veneers and the belt from above and/or below, performing "convection drying."
Advantages:
Relatively simple structure and lower manufacturing cost.
Suitable for thick veneers, small-sized veneers, and bamboo mats.
No pressure on veneers, minimizing imprint marks.

5. Control System: The brain of a modern dryer. Using a PLC and touchscreen HMI, it precisely controls drying temperature, air speed, conveyor speed (i.e., drying time), and humidity, enabling automated and intelligent production.
