Fiberboard Manufacturing Process Mdf Production Line

The manufacturing process of fiberboard usually includes the following main steps:

1. Raw material preparation

Raw material selection: The raw materials for fiberboard are usually wood chips, wood shavings or sawdust. These raw materials are widely selected due to their availability and cost-effectiveness.

Chipping and washing: The wood is first chipped into small pieces and washed to remove impurities.


2. Fiber preparation

Cooking and refining: The wood chips can be softened by cooking or soaking in hot water and then ground into fibers in a refiner. The refining process can be achieved by mechanical or chemical means.

Fiber washing: The ground fibers are sometimes washed to remove xylose that may reduce the quality of the finished product.

3. Fiber Mixing and Forming

Mixing and Sizing: The fibers are mixed with water and additives such as alum, starch, asphalt, and wax. Synthetic resins are not usually used in fiberboard production, and the bonding between fibers mainly relies on substances naturally present in wood.

Forming: The mixed fiber slurry is sent to the forming machine, and the water-fiber mixture is spread on the screen through a wet forming process, and the moisture is discharged by gravity and suction.


4. Compression and Drying

Pre-pressing and Drying: The moisture content of the pre-pressed fiber mat is about 60%, and its moisture content is reduced to about 4% by a conveyor belt dryer. The inlet temperature of the dryer is about 230°C and the outlet temperature is about 160°C.

Hot Pressing: The dried fiberboard is subjected to high temperature and high pressure in a hot press for further compression and curing.


5. Post-processing

Cooling and finishing: The board after hot pressing needs to be cooled to stabilize its size and performance. Then it is cut and sanded to obtain the required size and smooth surface.

-Surface treatment: The fiberboard can be painted or coated with asphalt and other surface treatments as needed.


6. Packaging and storage

Packaging: Finally, the fiberboard is packaged for easy transportation and storage.


The entire fiberboard manufacturing process requires precise control and advanced equipment to ensure the quality and consistency of the product.
